Happy Lunar Year! A record-breaking crowd of over 40,000 enthusiastic people joyfully gathered to warmly welcome the Year of the Snake 🐍 at Chinatown in Southside Birmingham. The lively celebration was bursting with excitement, featuring over 40 vibrant performances and engaging activities that took place both on stage and throughout Hippodrome Square, creating a truly unforgettable and magical experience for everyone who attended this remarkable event.
The vibrant and energetic lion dances, accompanied by the exhilarating firecrackers, kick off the festival with an electrifying bang on Sunday, the 2nd of February. The event opens with Welcome Speeches delivered by the esteemed Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Ken Wood, alongside the Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker, and Jeffrey Yap, the Chair of the Birmingham Chinese Festival Committee. These speeches take place on The Uber Eats Stage, setting the tone for an exciting day of cultural celebration. Following this, the stage lights up with captivating performances, including dynamic K-Pop Dance routines, the unique talents of Tal Chl, thrilling Sword Sparring displays, Kung Fu demonstrations, and the mesmerizing artistry of the amazing face changer.
A vibrant and colorful two-day celebration of traditional Chinese festival performances lit up Birmingham, filling the city with joy, excitement, and a contagious sense of energy. The first day, Saturday, 1st February, unfolded at the iconic Bullring shopping center, an iconic hub that brought culture and tradition directly to the city’s bustling heart. The second day, Sunday, 2nd February, took place in Chinatown, Southside, which provided an authentic and immersive cultural backdrop for the festivities. Organized by the renowned and highly respected Hippodrome, the event beautifully showcased their unwavering dedication to fostering community spirit and promoting cultural diversity within the region.
